40K Effort

After Jr. practice today I put in a 40K at Willow on the Black Widow. She was feeling frisky even though I dressed her in her SL's instead of aero wheels. We turned in a and 30:15 for the Willow TT distance of six laps on our way to a 57:46 for 40K . With some rest this week, the aero wheels and the adrenalin rush, I hope to see something better at the Wolverine. Fingers crossed!

Calling all Michigan racers!!

So it is looking like the month of July will see no racing in Michigan. There are several races in OH, IN and IL so let's take our show on the road. James and I are going to go down to Troy, OH to race the Troy Criterium on July 19. We are looking at the Chicago Criterium on July 27. If you have any other suggestions post them up in the comments section.

Ihave heard from reliable sources that they are both kaput.

Yeesh, not too shabby. I figure swapping out the ksyriums for a proper low-spoke deep rim will get you a minute over 40km. Would you happen to know what the road conditions are like on Hines?

Darrell Anderson said...

A minute? Really?!? Don't tease me!! John Rigdon is going to loan me his aero wheel. My LBS has also offered me a 90mm pro-lite. Does that deeper rim offer much more aero efficiency?

Let me throw out that road condition question to others. John Burrows reads this. Hey John, what do you know about the Hines road conditions?

From the start near Outer Drive to Merriman Rd it is good, close to new. From Merriman Rd to the turn around it is broken and cracked a bit but not too bad. Ridable, just watch where you are going. Since we will have the whole road, there are good lines to take all the way. So, yes, I would not worry about using your $3,000 feather weight, super fragile, sneeze on them and they snap wheels.

How about you come out Friday after work and we can ride Hines? I will be skipping Rockford as well.

Check out the best and worst wheels in terms of aero. If you can't get your Ritchey front wheel back before the TT, try to borrow the 90mm deep front. Hopefully there won't be any lakes in the middle of the course.

Looks like you should be using my wheels for the TT based on the study...

Thanks DMO!! I will see if I can get that Pro-Lite.

Scott's Cosmic Carbones would work great as well. And speaking of Scott, will you be doing the TT?

I talked to him this am and he's not going to race Rockford instead. Also, I have a wheel cover for my Mavic Open Pro, (powertap wheel). What do you think?

That last post was from me. Every computer and PDA in the house is signed in as Bikeboy.

Bite your tongue David...I am leaving the hour(or less) of pain to my gifted teammates. I will try and deliver something on Saturday instead.

I'd go with the wheelcover on a regular wheel over just about anything except for a proper disk, unless the wind is crazy. There's nothing wrong with Mavics in general. It's just those big fat Al spokes on the top end Ksyriums that make them not so great aerodynamically (and the R-sys are even worse). Still, they're great all-round wheels.

And Scott, I'm not sure if Rockford will have any less pain. It'll just be concentrated in the hill each lap instead of spread out over (hopefully less than) an hour. Despite what you say, I'm certain you could be an excellent TTist.
